The new standard for electrical switchboard matting is IEC61111:2009. This replaces the former standard BS921, which has now been withdrawn.

IEC61111:2009 offers a higher working voltage (1000V) than the old standard. In addition to this, our stock is 6mm thick compared to 10mm thick, which means that it is much easier to handle. We have been stocking this for some time in anticipation of the change in standards, and it has proved to be a very popular product.

Many of our customers still ask for BS921 matting. Because of this we have taken the decision to keep stock of the equivalent matting, although we can no longer call it BS921. In comparison it has a working voltage of 650V in 10mm thick and 450V in 6mm thick.

A copy of the spec sheet is attached to the relevant parts, but we have summarised the advantages of the new standard IEC61111:2009 below.

  • Increased safe working voltage.
  • Increased resistance to oils, chemicals and acids.
  • An increased flame retardant.
  • Reduced thickness of product from 9.5mm to 6mm improves ease of handling and reduces transport costs.
